3 Reasons To Keep Your Website Current

We’ve all heard the phrase “Location Location Location” in the real estate industry and how vital it is to choose the best one for your business, so customers can easily find you.  Well, in the website industry, our catchphrase is “Update Update Update”.   Websites are the new “Brick and Mortar” for the 21st century.  This is how your target audience, your clients will find you.  You want the “store front” to be clean, easy to navigate and current with stock (information).

Reason 1.  Inventory
How many times would you still purchase from a website that doesn’t have what you want in stock even though their website says it does? Let’s take CarMax for example.  They have dedicated employees whose sole purpose is to keep their site updated and current.  Inventory changes by the minute.  Most businesses may not have to update their information that quickly but still need the attention and dedication to keeping it relevant.   How would you feel as a customer if you found a beautiful, red 2014 SMART Car (hey, some people like them).   You’ve posted a picture of it on your Facebook, texted all your friends and Snap Chatted to everyone. Then, when you click on “Hold this car” on a the website it’s already sold?

Reason 2. Consistency
Of course, you should not make unnecessary changes, additions, or postings every hour of every day.  However, a site that is updated once a day, or at least two to three times a week, is considered a frequently updated site.  The “Googlebot” that crawls the web is constantly searching for web pages that are new or updated and then adds the fresh content to the Google index.  If you update your content often with reliable and valuable information, then you have a better chance of Google ranking your site higher with each update.
Fact:  Regularly updating your website with fresh content will garner appreciation and loyalty from your visitors.

Reason 3.  Search Engine Ranking
Your business is constantly changing and your website needs to reflect those changes.  Every update you make to your website once it is “live” on the internet plays a part in its interaction with visitors, customers and search engines.  The more frequently you update your website with articles, downloads, and new web pages, the more frequently a search engine will stop by to visit your website.  Another good reason to update your website with valuable content is to keep current customers updated, as well as provide necessary information for new visitors to convert to customers.  When search engines look at your site more frequently, you have the opportunity to achieve higher rankings based on the content you provide, which means higher visibility, which translates into more traffic and potentially more sales.  The more you update your site, the higher you rank with search engines like Google.
